Packing
It's not as easy as it seems. The sad thing is that I've done it PLENTY of times before but when you have to pick and choose, it becomes a tedious chore and very boring. I'm not stressed, I just don't like having to do it. Oh well! I leave tomorrow for snowy Utah. I'm excited and a little nervous but I'll be fine. Once i get out there and get settled I'll breathe better then I am now. (I'm somewhat in panic mode.) I am very excited to meet my roommates and for my job interview on friday! YAY! Anyway, I suppose that I should go back to packing....ick.

"The Very First"
It was dark hiding in the box that she was in. She waited anxiously to be found and brought into the brightened room where th efamily was decorating for Christmas. This time of year was always her favorite and she made believe that she was playing hide and seek until the final moment came when she was able to do her special job. Nobody else could do it, just her.
As time passed she heard carolers singing and friends wishing "Happy Holidays" to the family, but still she remained right where she was. She could smell cookies baking and heard the fire crackling but still she remained inside the box. The time just wasn't right.
She would amuse herself with carols and thoughts of Christmas morning when presents would be opened and love would be shared. This was the best time of year and she would wait as long as it took.
An hour passed, then a day, even a week, but she waited.
Finally, she heard it. The magic words that would open the lid and let her do her job. "Mom, look! It's snowing!" With baited breath she waited until the lid lifted. When it did, the light poured into her box and she smiled, as she always did, as the the hands reached down and gently lifted her up. Smiling with her arms stretched out and her wings glittering, the hands placed her atop a flowing evergreen decorated with lights of red, green and white and ornaments made from noodles and popsickle sticks to glass and porcelin. She kept smiling as the tree was lit. Their light threw tints of green and red out into the falling snow.
The children asleep and the living room quiet, the Angel gazed out the window and almost laughed. "It's the first snow fall of the year!" She smiled, "The very first."

By My Side
The day was dark
The rain fell hard
But someone stood beside me.
My life seemed wrong
I'd lost my song
But someone stood beside me.
I was deep in despair
Thought that nobody cared
And still He stood beside me.
I slumped my shoulders as I walked
My weight to hard to bear
And still He stood beside me.
I turned to the man who stood by my side
And asked him simply, "Why?"
He looked at me with a smile
And a tear fell down his cheek.
"My friend," He said,
"I will never go,
to leave you on this road alone.
When days are rough
and life is cruel,
just know I love you so."
I studied His face
and with tearful surprise
I found I knew the man
Who stood by my side.
I blushed with embarrassment
At my gloomy behavior
For this man
Was no question
My Lord, My Savior.
The rain fell hard
But someone stood beside me.
My life seemed wrong
I'd lost my song
But someone stood beside me.

Sunny With A High of....TWENTY-EIGHT?!? Excuse Me?
This whole week has been a wild and wacky weather week. I'm thinking that night have some reason as to why I have this unbearable cold. Anyway, I turned on the weather channel this morning and the cheery weatherman declared that we would have a beautiful sunny day with a high of 28 degrees. Somehow don't think that beautiful, sunny, and TWENTY-EIGHT degrees should ever belong in the same sentence...ever.
Now I really don't mind the cold, nasty, harsh, windy, snowy, rainy, whatever kind of weather but I DO mind when the sun is shining, there is no snow on the ground and I'm freezing my tooshie off! It just seems to be the ultimate oxymoron to me. "Hey look it's so sunny outside!"-Yeah, sunny, sure, but don't walk out the door because your nose'll fall off and who wants to be nose-less for the rest of their life??? Not me!
The strange thing about all of this is that I wouldn't mind if it was 28 degrees and snowing, or even just cloudy. It doesn't seem right for it to be so cold when the sun is out! It's like Snow Miser and Heat Miser are compromising in a very sick and twisted way. You see Snow Miser has aloud Heat Miser to let the sun shine, no clouds in the sky, in exchange for a wonderful 28 degree day. Oh joy! ...Hmph! That's what I think.
I suppose I'm so upset about this because I have a cold and no matter what the weather is like, I'd rather be in bed, in my nice warm PJ's, sleeping a NyQuil induced sleep, than here at work...where I get to look out of my 2 window-walls and see the sun shining or so merrily over a freezing Louisville, KY.
Oh well, I suppose I should soak up a much vitamin D as possible, it'll probably get really nasty next week, which I really won't mind so long as the sun and the temperature are cooperating with each other.

Creative Writing?
I have a horrible habit. You see, I have snippets of what sheer fabulousness where I conjure up some darn near wonderful scenes that could be used in a book. The problem is that I can't ever come up with a simple storyline to connect that one snippet with others to make a coherent story.
I have written a long story...almost 250 typed pages...however, I am constantly caught in the predicament that the story doesn't connect well and in other places my head hurts because the story line is just too darn complex. I've tried almost 7 times to edit and simplify to some avail but it's still messy. The option of starting all over again is becoming more and more appealing. (Even though that would be one stinkin' tedious job!)
It is one of my follies. A huge one. I don't mean to toot my own horn when I say this but, were it not for that stinkin' problem, I believe that I have a very good story tucked away inside the file cabinet that is my brain.
Maybe I should do that in school. Study creative writing? Hmm, something tells me it would be A LOT of writing. But I do like writing...creative writing at least...hmm...

Going To College...aka...Growing Up.
I will be moving out to BYU here in less then a month. Needless to say the idea frightens me to death but excites me more then ever. It's weird to think about not having mom or dad close but on the other hand it's a release.
I know I need to grow up. I also know that it won't be easy. In fact, I'm pretty sure that it'll top my "Hardest Things about Life" list. I probably won't stay number one but it'll definitely hold 1st place for awhile.
I am grateful that two of my wonderful and beautiful sisters live out there. They are very much rocks right now. I'm also excited because my cousin lives out there. It'll be so much fun...but nerve wracking at the same time.
It's nice to know that I'll be learning though. Heaven knows I make enough mistakes about life, that specific knowledge is crucial, but I'll be in school, too, and that is really comforting.
I'm still trying to find a job but everything will work out. I have to believe that. So many things that I never thought could work out have worked out. To me, it's a sign that going to school is the right thing to do. AND I AM SO EXCITED!

Snow and People's Driving abilities.
I don't understand how people can be so utterly careless when it comes to slick, icy roads. It's seriously boggles my mind that some people believe that despite the weather, they are invincible while in their car.
Yesterday, two friends and I were driving to Cincinnati however the weather was such that the snow was quickly turning into ice on the road. We were trucking along at a whopping 35 miles an hour on the interstate, while others were carelessly flying by us, all the while swerving because their cars couldn't handle the ice.
I suppose that there are those people who really just don't know how to drive in bad conditions, considering that Kentucky isn't really known for bad winters. Yes, there is ice and yes, it does snow but if you'd been there yesterday you would've thought that half the people on the road had never experienced driving in ice or snow...ever.
I'm grateful that my friends and I made it to and from Cincinnati safely, but it saddens me that most likely 1/2 of the 10 accidents we witnessed occurred because someone was being careless.
So next time you take a drive in the ice, please be considerate of your own life as well as others.

The First...
I figured since I like to talk, and venting is a wonderful way to relieve stress, why not get a blog? I can now say that I am a blogger and that makes me pretty excited. So this isn't a very profound first entry but I'm okay with that.
