Phones Should Never Take Baths...

It's a true statement. Some of these new technological devises have minds of their own. Especially my phone.
You see, yesterday I decided that I would clean the bathroom. My roommates are always so busy and for now, until I start my job next week, I just sit at home. So, to help them out, I clean the apartment. It's really not a big deal since none of us are oober messy but it's just something I can do for them so that they can come home and do homework instead of chores.
Anyway, I decided to clean the bathroom. I grabbed my roomie's laptop and inserted my favorite cleaning CD (ABBA Gold) and went to work. I cleaned the counters, the sinks, the toilet and the floor. I saved the tub for last.
Well, I turned on the water to rinse it out and then started scrubbing it. After awhile, I re-rinsed but little did I know that my mischievous cell phone, located inside the pocket of my hoodie, thought that it was his duty to help. That or he really wanted to take a bath. (My phone has never had a gender before, it's a bit strange but I guess it's a 'he' now...)
Anywho, the little bugger had about a 2 second bath before I yanked him out of the water and ripped out the battery. I left him drying on the counter for a good hour before I tried putting him back together to see if he would work.
He didn't.
Panicking, I called my friend. One thing led to another (haha, Brain Regan is stuck in my subconscious) and I was talking to a very rude person at the Verizon store who basically told me I was stupid and that everyone knows to stick your phone in rice.
I was too excited about rice to care about this man's rude behavior and left the store. When I got back home, my phone took a nice long nap in an air tight container full of rice. After a few hours (and a couple dozen prayers that it would work-because I don't have a warranty on my phone any more) I popped open the lid and retrieved my phone. Placing the battery back into my phone and silently pleading some more that this would work, I flipped the phone over in my hand and pressed the power button.
IT WORKED! To my astonishment my phone was working again! I was so happy that I started dancing around the kitchen and jumping up and down. Needless to say, I've decided that I'll be leaving my phone in my room while I clean from now on. After all, you never know when your phone will decided to take a bath or help you clean....which ever the case may be!

I Have A Job!

So I finally have a job! The Lord knows what he's doing, that's for sure. I now work at Sonic and as of 11:30a.m. today I will be a Sonic employee officially! So happy. It's going to be great! There's not much left to say except that I'm excited and I've already said that! :) I'm nervous, that's for sure, I've never worked at a fast food place before but I'm curious as to how I'll like it. After all, in the past I'd sworn off working at any kind of fast food place. But today is a different day. When you are almost completely destitute you realize that you don't care where you work so long as you can do something and know that you aren't letting anyone down...your parents especially. It's a good feeling to be employed. I can support myself now and not feel like a burden. It's wonderful.

150 Million...

I was reading in an online article on CNN.com that President Obama's inauguration cost 150 Million dollars. For those of you who think that that number is a sufficient number for dear Mr. President let me hopefully put it into your head just how disgusting that number is.
Despite our crappy economy, and despite all of the grief that certain Democrats gave former President George W. Bush, pushing him to be more frugal with the Nation's money, are making no such demands for our new president.
I would just like to give a couple of examples that demonstrate how other past presidents were more classy than flashy.
During World War 1 did not have any extravagant parties, stating that such activities would be undignified.
President Roosevelt held his inauguration at the White House, keeping his speech short and "serving his guests cold chicken salad and plain pound cake."
Now some people who may read this may think that the more than tripled budget for the inauguration was so ridiculous because of "security". Why security was indeed upped this year, and while I recognize the need for increased security, that, indeed, was not the only reason for the flashy little price tag for this...party.
At least 45 million dollars was spent on a range of festivites (spanning four days) from a Philadelphia-to-Washington train ride to a megastar concert with Beyonce, U2 and Bruce Springsteen to 10 official inaugural balls.
Like I said earlier, while I understand the need for increased security and also understand that, sure, a celebration isn't going to kill anyone, I don't understand how the person who is claiming to save our economically crappy country can stand to see the price tag of his own little party (and I do mean parties...) become so large.
I think that President Obama has wonderful ideas for this country but I also have not seen one thing that shows me that he can, in fact, make those things happen. I'm sure time will tell what his presidency will do for this Nation, for not only his country, but OURS. Because this is indeed OUR country, he just happens to be the man in charge, for now.

Roomies.

My roomies are the best things that have happened to me since moving to Provo.
Rachel-She is so sweet. She knows what to say and when to say it. On top of that she's extremely patient although she denies that profusely.
Hannah-Holy cow can you say amazing? She is always praying which is so cool. She always reminds us that we need to have roomie prayers which is something all of us in my apartment need. She is my room roomie. She's always there if I need to talk about something, or just relieve some stress, which is mainly what's been happening since I still can't find a job. (I've sent 2 more resumes and applied 4 more places..it's pretty sick. Jobs I've applied for is now at tally mark 27.) Anyway, she's amazing and so...amazing! :)
Jackie-Oh Jacksters. She is my sarcastic buddy. We are always sarcastic with one another and it's awesome because we totally get each other's humor. It's wonderful. She is also a darn good cook! Yummy yummy food people, no joke!
I guess I just wanted to brag about 3 definite blessings that I've been given since I moved here. The Lord knows what he's doing and even though I don't always understand the timing, it all has a reason.

I'm like an Egg...

I love college, it's a wonderful experience and a great way to grow up. What I don't love is feeling helpless and useless. I still can't find a job although the current tally of applications is 12.
So, I've decided I'm like an egg. Why? Well, it's simple, you can boil them and though they may crack a little on the outside, they keep it pretty much together on the inside. Boiling water = a challenge. You can also just flat out drop an egg. And for the most part, they splatter all over the place. I'm being dropped (like a rock....but an egg) by life. I know all the cliche sayings, "When life gives you Lemon, make Lemonade." but what they don't tell you is that you can't make very good lemonade without sugar. I don't have ANY sugar. So it's really a lose-lose situation! I know I'm sounding quite pessimistic right now but A-I'm scared and B-I'm frustrated. I've put so much work into finding a job and I have diddly-squat to show for it.

Love of this new life...

My roommates have made this move much much easier then I ever imagined. They are all so wonderful and accepting. Church was just as fun, slightly embarrasing but I can handle that. I've already learned so much about myself that I never really knew. For example, if I don't know people, I like to keep out of the spot light (unless I don't think I'll ever see them again but I don't think that is the case...) Until I get to know people, I don't really like to be loud which is really somewhat strange all things considered.
Anyway, my Ward is amazing. BYU's 73rd ward. Everyone I've met has been so nice. It's nice when someone holds a door open for you...excuse me, when they run ahead of you to open and hold the door for you. That didn't happen much at home. But it's wonderful.
My class seems like it will be fun too. My Professor is new to BYU but he's taught before and he seems really down to earth. (No pun intended-it's a Biology/Environment class.) Today he showed us a clip from the Planet Earth series, which I absolutely love and then he read us a children's book about the environment which was extremely hilarious. Another good thing about the class is that the 2 books are small and were written for non-science people. It's rather wonderful.
So all in all I have nothing to complain about and I know that the Lord has blessed me more than I could ever imagine. It's so amazing.

Finding a Job is Like...

..trying to find a needle in a haystack. Just about. I would really like to find a receptionist job, or something of that nature but if I have to, I'll work at McDonalds or Sonic....ick. I hate to admit that but I have to pay for rent and food and all that fun stuff so at this point I really don't care what job it is. (But at the same time I care a LOT.) I suppose it woulsn't kill me to work at McD's or Sonic but the pay is...well, not the greatest. But I am available for full-time so...oh I don't know. I just really don't like this whole searching for a job thing. Who does? If anyone knows where I can find a job in Provo, Utah, please, by all means let me know!
